Started in the
Trade. Stayed in it.
I grew up around decorating. My dad was a painter — not a business, just a man who took on jobs and cared about the result. I spent weekends helping him strip wallpaper and sand woodwork before I was old enough to hold a brush properly. That standard of work — do it right, or don't do it — stuck.
After college, I trained properly. City & Guilds, then a decade working under established contractors across West Yorkshire. Good experience, mostly — but I kept seeing the same problem. Preparation was treated as something to rush through, not something to get right. And the results showed it.
I started Foster Decorating in 2009 with a straightforward approach: quote honestly, prepare properly, and finish to a standard I'd be happy with in my own home. That hasn't changed.
In fifteen years I've worked on everything from single rooms to full exterior repaints of Victorian terraces. Residential and commercial. Farrow & Ball feature walls and standard contract emulsion. The materials change — the standard doesn't.
I work alone by choice. It means every job gets my full attention, and you deal with one person from first contact to final brush stroke. No subcontractors, no crews I can't vouch for, no surprises on the day.
